Life on the Streets

Haven’t got around to doing a new “What We’re Listening To” in a while so here you go. K’naan’s been getting a great deal of attention lately and I really like his music and story. Born in Mogadishu, Somalia, K’naan spent his childhood in the district of Wardhiigleey (“The River of Blood“) and lived there during the Somali Civil War, which began in 1991. His aunt, Magool, was one of Somalia’s most famous singers. K’naan’s grandfather, Haji Mohamed, was a poet. K’naan is also a Muslim, his name, means “traveller” in the Somali language. Adventure #1, 6/19

Posted on June 20, 2009

Final exams at Lawrence High are officially over, and of course an adventure was in order to celebrate. Only one more day of school left, with yet another adventure planned afterwards. Yup, Life, where everything is adventure. Shout outs to Julius, Paul, Xan, & RJ. (left to right minus Kareem) In other news, I had mediterranean pizza (above) today, and I can honestly say it was one of the best pizzas I’ve ever eaten in my entire life. Many more adventures to come, some meaningful, others quite the opposite… –peace.love.life.
